Well, I finished a really crappy book on a very beautiful three day weekend. Yes, I get the ridiculous Columbus Day holiday off even though I am not a postal worker. This is certainly excessive, but I definitely made the most of it with several rounds of vacuuming, shopping for fall fashions and of course reading.
Bookworm & Beast show appreciation for ol' Chris Columbus. |
I think if Columbus knew that after he found the New World The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold would become a national bestseller, he might have regretted setting sail. This was a truly crap novel, and apparently a lot of people were duped into buying it based on her mildly better book The Lovely Bones.
This book is not good. I hated all of the characters, and thought the story managed to be both boring and confusing. Insanity for the sake of insanity is just not a good read. Frankly, it is pretty tough to believe a book that starts out with such an interesting first sentence (“When all is said and done, killing my mother came easily.”) could be so terrible, but I’m afraid this is the case.
In conclusion, I’m sure everyone is celebrating Columbus in their own private manner, but take my advice and vacuum out your car rather than read The Almost Moon.
